intelligible voynich manuscript

how this site works

In the main part this site consists of tables which display the level of knowledge in a specific research area concerning the Voynich Manuscript (Beinecke MS 408).

In combination with an excessiv bibliographic work these method of working with tables have shown to be a powerfull working tool to manage and to document excerption work and literature reviews. It is open to everybody and I would apprecciate comments, hints or further material to be added.

This site is meant to be a quick source for reference and as a basis for future Vonynich Manuscript scholars to get started more quickly and to help others to go beyond the current state of knowledge with ease.

about scientific methods

To quote R. Zandbergen, it is not possible to read every single blog entry and everything which has been stated about the Voynich Manuscript. But this is not the aim of this website because it is meant to provide a scientific basis for further investigations. Thus a merely blog entry or statement about some oddities of the Voynich Manuscript is not helpful as such, at least not in a scientific manor.

A major attribute of scientific work is to contribute something new to an area of expertise in such a way that another individual could use this work as a starting point for further investigations. The act of obervation produces nothing new nor is it in any way scientific as such. Science starts when one tries to conclude something from the obervations made before and then tries to prove the conclusions by means of an experiment and make the findings accessible for other individuals.

Yet there have been so many scholars dedicating years of their life examining the Voynich Manuscript. But many did not document their research at all or in a propper intelligible way or kept their results as a secret, not meant to be accessible for another person, or maybe their documents got lost, vanished, never again to be useful for anybody (e.g. Marci and Dee in the 17th century, Petersen, Friedman, Morningstar, Krischer and many others in the 20th century).

On the other side it is really of great importance to avoid mistakes which have been already identified. There have been so much individuals who get struggled in trying to decrypt the Voynich Manuscript on their own, getting caught in their own system of theories and believes, not aware of or even not interested in the advice and the findings of other scholars.

The riddle of the Voynich Manuscript could only be solved if every scholar contributes its very best to the cause. In this way there already have been accomplished an astonishing amount of work in a scinetific manner by Voynich, D'Imperio, Landini, Reeds, Zandbergen, Gilogly, Stolfi, Guy and many others.

This site offers a annotated history of their research about the Voynich Manuscript, their insights and findings.
